Elektromugre

2016-2020

An installation consisting of a series of sculptures first exhibited in 2016 as part of the undergraduate project "Elektromugre" at the Universidad de los Andes. That same year, it was showcased at Voltaje, one of the most important art and technology fairs in Colombia. In 2018, it was developed into an open public lab held at the Exploratorio in Medellín through a grant awarded by Plataforma Bogotá and the Instituto Distrital de las Artes. This was where Elektromugre was first presented as a live performance centered around noise and sound experimentation. It has been featured in festivals such as "Viva la noizz", "Ruido y política", "Bogotrax", and "Sonofest".

The work exposes the circuits of discarded and "obsolete" electronics, spreading them out like skinned animals, fed with electricity as they intermingle like an orgy of living corpses. Electromagnetic microphones amplify the fields produced by the machines, revealing complex layers of high and low frequencies in constant tones and rhythmic sequences. Assembled for their sonic potential, these bare circuits form a mutant of scrap metal that unveils not only electromagnetic fields but also hidden structures usually concealed under plastic and metal. However, it is not a naïve fascination; the work subverts this phenomenon by exposing waste and discarded technology, prompting reflection on consumption, reuse, and the role of technology in society—especially in so-called "third world" countries, where resourcefulness has historically been displaced by those who produce and control technology markets.
